Stay alert for changing atmospheric conditions favourable for the development of thunderstorms. At HKIA, there is an Airport Lightning Warning System (ALWS) specially dedicated to provide lightning warning to all operators. The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) provides round-the-clock weather updates via the Aviation Meteorological Information Dissemination System on Internet dedicated for use by aerodrome services and operators. Also commencing mid 2007, the HKO introduced the Airport Thunderstorm and Lightning Alerting System (ATLAS) to improve detection efficiency of lightning over HKIA. The system analyses and forecasts the trends of lightning based on a more comprehensive data range. With more precise and efficient tracking and prediction of thunderstorm movements, it helps reduce the overwarning rate and shorten the warning duration, thus minimising disruptions to operations for outdoor ramp workers. When lightning is detected near the airport, the HKO will alert the Airport Authority who will in turn issue warnings to airport operators by auto voice message distribution, multifax as well as audiovisual warnings in the apron areas.

留意可能会引致雷暴的大气转变情况.香港国际机场 设有机场闪电警告系统,特别为所有机场营运商提供 闪电警告. 香港天文台专门为机场及机场服务营运商,利用网上 航空气象资料传送系统,全日24小时提供最新天气情 况资料. 自2007年年中起,香港天文台更引入机场雷暴和闪电 预警系统,以改善在香港国际机场探测闪电的效率. 该系统根据更全面的数据,分析和预测闪电的移动途 径,因此能更准确有效预测和追踪雷暴的移动,有助 减少发出不必要警告的次数,以及缩短警告时间,从 而减少影响停机坪的户外运作. 如果探测到机场附近有闪电,香港天文台会通知机管 局,机管局会透过自动话音信息,多线传真,以及响 号及灯号向机场营运机构发出警告.
