The Sunshine Reporter is a monthly newsletter highlighting the children, donors, volunteers and work of the Sunshine Foundation. Sunshine Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) charity, is dedicated to answering the dreams of children who are chronically ill, physically challenged or have been abused and proudly uses 83% of its donations received for children鈥檚 programs. This publication is produced, assembled and distributed by staff and volunteers to reduce costs.
Sunshine Foundation reaches out to many children in need everyday and in the process of answering dreams has the pleasure of getting to know truly remarkable families! In honor of Mothers Day we would like to share the stories of two mothers of Sunshine Foundation dreamers. Sunshine Foundation had the honor of meeting Allyson and her beautiful family when we surprised her son, Sam, with a dream come true trip to Disney World! Sam is 10 years old and has Myelomeningocele, a type of spina bifida. Allyson shared this with us.

Sam鈥檚 mom, Allyson! hours. At that point, we just stopped dead in our tracks. We felt like someone had just sat on our chests and said your life as you know it has come to a complete end. We had anticipated that things may not go well, but did not expect things would have been as difficult as it has been. We have been back and forth to Philadelphia many, many times. Sam has spent 4 weeks in the hospital this summer. It鈥檚 a seven hour round trip. We never looked at anything we have done for him as special. He鈥檚 our son and its just our job as his parents to take care of him. In the last few months, our Sam and his family at Sunshine lives have been turned upside down financially and emotionally, so to have a gift like Foundation鈥檚 Dreams Village! this after everything we have been through as a family and everything Sam has had to struggle with just to get back to life鈥?and that someone just thinks enough of us to make that donation is incredible! To know that we don鈥檛 have to have the financial worries behind a trip like this, I can鈥檛 tell you what it means. It鈥檚 amazing to get a gift! We have not been to Disney but have discussed it many times. Life happens and finances are such that two parents working just doesn鈥檛 quite equal enough money to take such an extravagant trip鈥?and here we are taking this trip!鈥?
